Tamron applied "Macro" to all lenses released up until 2009 that had close-up capabilities of a maximum magnification ratio of 1:4 (x0.25). However, there is definitely a difference in the design concepts of macro and zoom lenses with regard to close-up shooting. The design of macro lenses is ultimately geared towards the image quality and bokeh quality of close-up shooting, while still delivering adequate performance in general shooting (portraits, landscapes etc.). However, zoom lenses with macro capability are geared towards the image quality of general shooting, while still enabling easy close-up shooting with their macro capability.
For lenses released from 2010 onwards (Models A005 and B008), "Macro" will only be applied to lenses with a maximum magnification ratio of 1:1 (x1).
