Top Ten Do's & Don'ts
for Nature and Wildlife Photography
Don't forget to bring a lens shade.
Don't forget to bring a polarizer.
Do bring neutral density graduated filters.
Do bring a two-gallon ziplock bag for protecting
your camera in rain and high humidity. A ziplock bag will also keep
the camera from collecting condensation when transporting from cold
to warm environments, with the condensation collecting on the bag,
not the camera.
Don't forget to bring a good tripod with a ball-head
and quick-release plate.
Do bring Tamron lenses. Don uses the 11-18, 18-200
and the 200-500 to give him a very complete zoom range from super
wide to extreme telephoto.
Do research on the place that you will be visiting.
It's useful to find locations that have worked well for other photographers.
Don't hesitate to ask locals for tips on their
favorite places - these might make perfect locations to shoot. They
can also give you tips on where to go look for local wildlife.
Do be aware
of the predicted location of the sun for those great early morning
and late afternoon shots.
Do bring a
good GPS unit if you have one. This can mark each step of your route
in the backwoods and even an exact photo location so it can be found
on your next trip.
