TAMRON SP AF28-75MM F/2.8 XR DI ZOOM SELECTED AS EUROPEAN LENS OF THE YEAR 2003-2004
Remarkable Downsizing of This Fast Standard Lens Makes Tamron's New 28-75 The Smallest & Lightest Lens In Its Class
Tokyo, Japan: Mr. Morio Ono, president & CEO of Tamron Co., Ltd., announced on August 15, 2003, that the new Tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom was voted as EUROPEAN LENS OF THE YEAR 2003-2004. This marks the seventh time Tamron has received this top honor, following in the footsteps of the Tamron SP AF35-105mm F/2.8 ('92-'93); AF28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 ('93-'94); SP AF90mm F/2.8 1:1 Macro ('97-'98); AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 LD Aspherical (IF) Macro ('99-'00); AF28-200mm F/3.8-5.6 LD Aspherical (IF) Super II Macro ('00-'01); and AF28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 XR LD Aspherical (IF) Ultra Zoom Macro ('02-'03). The EISA Photo Award is one of the most prestigious and internationally recognized awards in the industry. The jury, representing the leading photo magazines in 15 European countries, annually votes to give the award to newly released products in recognition of their contribution to the development of imaging technology. The Tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di Zoom received this official award citation:
This lens represents the first in a new category - a fast standard zoom that can be used comfortably as the lens regularly attached to a camera body. The new Tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di is astounding in both size and performance, particularly when used with the new crop of digital SLR cameras that require a higher level of optical performance. To meet the needs of this dual-format world (silver-halide and digital), the optical system of the lens is designed to provide optimum performance when used with the latest digital SLR cameras that are becoming more popular than ever. Tamron's new Di (Digitally Integrated design) lens series offers users of both film and digital cameras: - Higher
resolution The SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR LD Aspherical (IF) Macro utilizes the XR size reduction technology developed for the AF28-200mm XR Super Zoom (Model A03) and AF28-300 XR Ultra Zoom (Model A06) to create a fast standard zoom lens. Furthermore, the XR design contributes to the lens' almost unbelievably compact size for a lens of this type featuring a filter diameter of Ø67mm, maximum diameter of 73mm (2.9"), and length of only 92mm (3.6"). And at only 510g (17.99 oz.), Tamron has turned the image of fast standard zooms as heavy and cumbersome on its head such as it did with the notion of mega zooms in 1993.
