TAMRON ANNOUNCES SUPER WIDEANGLE INFRARED MONO-FOCAL LENS
New 1/3 2.2mm F/1.2 Expands Tamron's Unique IR Lens Series
September 12, 2005, ASIS, Orlando, FL— Tamron USA, Inc. announced the addition of a new Super Wideangle lens to its extensive Mono-Focal IR (Infrared) series. The 1/3 2.2mm F/1.2 IR Mono-Focal is available in both manual and DC Auto iris versions. The angle of view the 2.2mm lens makes it a significant product for monitoring of small and/or tight spaces like ATMs, prison cells, elevators and more. The new lens offers a desirable 118.6° horizontal angle of view (25.4° more horizontal angle of view than the 2.8mm at 93.2°) for use in such applications as these. In addition, its IR capability and fast F/1.2 aperture means the lens is extremely valuable even in dark nighttime locations. The Tamron 2.2mm features state-of-the-art optical design to solve the out-of-focus range between visible and near-IR light and delivers high quality and resolution. Using Tamron’s special Multi-Coating also improves transmittance in the near-IR range and effectively eliminates flare and ghosting. The IR capability is extremely important for surveillance of darker areas, such as nighttime monitoring of cell blocks. Improved images can even be seen in lit areas where the light consists of more IR light. For example, Halogen lighting is 85% IR light and therefore image quality can be dramatically improved when using an IR lens on a day/night camera in this type of lighting scenario. This new Super Wideangle Mono-Focal itself is quite unique and sets Tamron far apart from the competition. Tamron provides the only assortment of Mono-Focal IR lenses on the market including the new 2.2mm, 2.8mm, 4mm, 6mm and 8mm. When a Mono-Focal is the lens of choice as a matter of cost, size or aperture, there is no other series that can match Tamron's. The size of the Tamron 2.2mm is perfect for mini domes that use a CS Mount. The main barrel of the lens is consistent in size, shape and diameter as the other Mono-Focal lenses in the series since common parts are used. This means flexibility in the field when choosing the right lens for the application. Both models of the 2.2mm lens feature locking mechanisms built into each ring (focus and iris on the manual version; focus on the DC version) and provide a built-in Slip Mount mechanism for precision installations. The designers have even considered environmental impact by making a lens that is environmentally friendly in design: glass with no lead content was selected and lead-free solder was used to manufacture the lens. The new IR Mono-Focal joins Tamron's extensive IR Vari-Focal line-up:
Tamron is a leading manufacturer of lenses and optical components for photographic, industrial, laboratory, video, digital and scientific applications.
