TAMRON DEVELOPS THREE 1/3”–FORMAT MEGA-PIXEL
COMPATIBLE VARI-FOCAL LENSES

New High-Resolution Vari-Focal Lenses Derive 100% of Performance from Surveillance Cameras Equipped With Mega-Pixel Count Image Sensors

July 2, 2007, Commack, New York— Tamron USA, Inc. announced the launch of a new series of 1/3”-format Vari-Focal lenses compatible with surveillance and security cameras equipped with mega-pixel count image sensors. The first two lenses of the new series are Model M13VM308 1/3”-format 3.0-8mm F/1.0 (Manual Iris) and Model M13VG308 1/3”-format 3.0-8mm F/1.0 (DC Auto Iris).

THE DEVELOPMENT CONCEPT

Today, we see increasing needs for surveillance, requiring higher optical quality and performance to satisfy the demand for sophisticated systems. Prompted by rapid progress in imaging technologies, environments that allow the enhancement of image quality from surveillance systems are being formed with the advent of new image compression and digital transmission technologies. Under such market environments, surveillance cameras equipped with image sensors boasting mega-pixel counts are being introduced in rapid succession.

In order to respond to such changes in the surveillance market, engineers at Tamron challenged the difficult task of developing lenses to meet the market needs, and accordingly developed a new series of 1/3”-format high-resolution Vari-Focal lenses that derive the maximum performance from surveillance cameras equipped with mega-pixel count image sensors. The first lenses of the series are a pair of sibling 3.0-8mm mega-pixel compatible Vari-Focal lenses— one featuring manual iris (Model M13VM308) and the other with auto iris (Model M13VG308).

MAIN FEATURES

High Optical Quality Derives Maximum Performance from Mega-pixel Surveillance Cameras
– Through the employment of advanced optical technologies, the lenses deliver high-resolution and high-contrast images that are uniformly sharp from the center to the periphery. In particular, resolution in the image corner is almost double when compared to that of conventional lenses.
– The lenses use aspherical elements and LD (low dispersion) optical glass material to minimize various aberrations and ensure high optical quality, even while realizing the compact design.
– Multi-coating is applied to lens surfaces to minimize the phenomena of ghosting and flare in backlit situations. The result is consistent high contrast and excellent image quality even in such conditions.

Highly Accurate and High Quality Mechanical Construction Derives the Maximum Performance from the Optical System
Each and every mechanical component boasts high accuracy and is assembled with advanced manufacturing engineering technologies. As a result, constructional problems which are likely to cause image degradation through focal point shift or lopsided blur have been eliminated.

Covers 3.0-8mm Popular Focal Length Range which realizes a 90° Angle of View at Wide End
Through the employment of the latest optical design, the lens covers the most popular focal length range of 3.0-8mm while delivering high image quality to support mega-pixel cameras. Offering a 92.5° angle of view at wide-angle, the 3.0-8mm permits surveillance of an entire room when positioned in the corner.

F/1.0 Maximum Aperture
The maximum aperture of F/1.0 supports even mega-pixel sensors with low sensitivity to allowing the use of such surveillance cameras in dim-lit conditions.
