TAMRON SPONSORS STUDENT TO ATTEND BARNSTORM XVII:
THE EDDIE ADAMS WORKSHOP

Jude Wolpert of Golden, CO Joins 100 Other Students in Jeffersonville, NY on October 8, 2004

September 1, 2004, Commack, NY —Tamron USA, Inc. announced that Jude Wolpert was selected by Tamron judges to attend Barnstorm XVII: The Eddie Adams Workshop this October. Tamron will pay Wolpert's travel expenses as well as room and board fees so that she may attend the tuition-free workshop.

Barnstorm XVII received almost 800 entries this year. Tamron promoted its "Wedding/Event Photographer Scholarship" program to photo schools across the US and on its website. After reviewing numerous portfolios from talented students, the judges awarded Ms. Wolpert the first scholarship of its kind. Wolpert's photographic essay of handicapped children was inspiring. A parent of a disabled child herself, she captured the spirit of the children and their families without focusing on handicaps.

The workshop will help Wolpert to further her career after she graduates from the Art Institute of Colorado in 2005. "I am interested in working in event photography and photojournalism in order to document layers of society that might go unnoticed by most casual observers," stated Jude on her application. She hopes the skills she will develop at the Eddie Adams Workshop will allow her to powerfully share with the world these exceptional children.

"We feel honored to help someone with such admirable goals to attend this world class workshop with no financial burden," remarked Stacie Errera, Chief Marketing Officer for Tamron. "Her first-hand knowledge combined with the profound experience the Workshop offers will be a great foundation for making a reality Jude's dreams of becoming a photojournalist and illustrating the hard but rewarding life of families with disabled loved ones."

Entering its 17th year, the Workshop's purpose is to create a forum in which an exchange of ideas, techniques, and philosophies can be shared between both established members and newcomers of the profession of picture journalism. The students are divided into teams and led by a photographer, an editor and a researcher, all professionals in their field. The four days are divided between shooting, editing, speeches, panel discussions and one-on-one portfolio reviews with editors. The faculty, who donates their time and effort to the Workshop, represent organizations such as Time, National Geographic, Parade, The New York Times, People, Sports Illustrated, Reuters, Miami Herald, Houston Chronicle, The Washington Post, and others. Founder and Pulitzer Prize-winning photographer, Eddie Adams, presides over the intensive four-day program. In addition to Adams, participating photographers have included Harry Benson, Eric Draper, Bill Eppridge, Tom Franklin, Walter Ioos, David Kennerly, Douglas Kirkland, Heinz Kluetmeier, Mary Ellen Mark, Joe McNally, Gordon Parks, Joe Rosenthal and Nick Ut. Carl Mydans, who passed away last month, was involved in the workshop from its inception.

Since the workshop is tuition-free, funding is provided by manufacturers and publications. Nikon is the main sponsor of the workshop, Tamron is one of 13 contributors, and a number of supporters help round out the Workshop's finances.
