October 30, 2020, Saitama, Japan – Tamron Co., Ltd., a leading manufacturer of optics for diverse applications, announces that its all-in-one zoom lens for Sony E-mount full-frame mirrorless cameras, the 28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD (Model A071) has won the prestigious Grand Gold Prize in the Interchangeable Lens / Mirrorless Category, an award of the highest rank, at the Digital Camera Grand-Prix 2021. Gold Prize was also awarded to Tamron’s 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A056).

About the award-winning products

■Grand Gold Prize (Interchangeable Lens / Mirrorless Category):28-200mm F/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD (Model A071)
First all-in-one zoom starting at F2.8
The lens has a large maximum aperture of F2.8 at 28mm wide end, which represents a world’s first1 for all-in-one zoom lenses, and delivers high-level performance across the entire zoom range, from the 28mm wide-angle end to 200mm telephoto. Despite covering a wide range of focal lengths, the lens is light weight and compact, with a length of 117mm (4.6 in) and a weight of 575g (20.3 oz). Tamron has also taken an uncompromising approach to optical performance, making liberal use of special lens elements—including LD (Low Dispersion) and XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) —to greatly suppress chromatic aberrations, and making it possible to achieve high image quality from edge to edge. With an MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.19m (7.5 in) at the wide end and 0.8m (31.5 in) at the telephoto end, the lens also offers high-level close-up shooting performance. When it comes to all-in-one zooms, the innovative 28-200mm F2.8-5.6 is in a class by itself and vividly captures virtually all possible scenes, from landscape photography to portrait photos and snapshots.

■Gold Prize (Third party / Mirrorless Category): 70-180mm F/2.8 Di III VXD (Model A056)
Lighter, smaller, faster – for telephoto freedom
The greatest feature is its outstanding performance even while attaining a fast F2.8 aperture across the entire zoom range and offering the world’s lightest2 and most compact package with a filter diameter of 67mm, maximum diameter of 81mm, 149mm (5.9 in) length (at the 70mm setting) and a weight of 810g (28.6 oz). Thanks to the generous use of special lens elements, the 70-180mm F2.8 achieves excellent image quality, and with the short MOD (Minimum Object Distance) of 0.85m (33.5 in), it also broadens the possibilities for photographic expression. For enhanced AF drive efficiency, Tamron has newly developed the VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive), a linear motor focus mechanism that delivers excellent quietness and agile performance, thereby producing the highest level of autofocusing speed and precision in Tamron’s history. This remarkable 70-180mm F2.8 is the third member of Tamron’s exciting trio of fast F2.8 zoom lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras.
