City snaps of Hampton Roads in Virginia by Jason Hunter with TAMRON 11-20mm F2.8 (Model B060) for FUJIFILM X-mount
For FUJIFILM X-mount
The 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD (Model B060) is a large-aperture ultra wide-angle zoom lens. It's small and light weight with a good camera balance. The 11-20mm F2.8 makes it an ideal ultra-wide-angle zoom lens for daily use. The MOD (Minimum Object Distance) at the wide-angle side is 0.15 m, allowing you to enjoy the world of wide-angle macro shooting.
Over the last month, I have had the pleasure of using the TAMRON 11-20mm F/2.8 Di III-A RXD (Model B060) for FUJIFILM X-mount. The lens is smaller and fits the FUJIFILM X-T4 very well, due to the lens' size and weight. With the FUJIFILM APS-C sensor, the lens translates to a 16.5-30mm (a full-frame equivalent), a range that is sorely missed in the FUJIFILM lens lineup, and I feel this lens will be very popular with photographers looking for a fast F2.8 wide zoom.
The TAMRON 11-20mm F2.8 is incredibly sharp and offered outstanding image quality during my time with it. At all f-stops, the lens provided tack-sharp focus and clarity. Colors and contrast were also beautifully rendered and paired nicely with FUJIFILM’s built-in film simulations. The build quality is well constructed, and the focus ring is smooth. However, I would love to see an aperture ring included in a future version and on other TAMRON lenses for FUJIFILM.
Like other TAMRON lenses for FUJIFILM, the 11-20mm F2.8 shares the same design language as its bigger siblings the TAMRON 17-70mm F/2.8 Di III-A VC RXD (Model B070) and 18-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di III-A VC VXD (Model B061). It has a modern look that is sleek and attractive. The lens is all black with white lettering. Included with the lens is a petal-shaped lens hood. The lens hood has a satisfying click when attaching it to the lens and feels well-made and high quality.
Another highlight of the lens that is appreciated by photographers who have purchased other TAMRON lenses for their FUJIFILM cameras is the filter size. All three lenses from TAMRON for X-mount have the same Ø67mm filter size. I love that TAMRON did this since it makes sharing filters between the lenses much easier and cost-effective.
During my time with the 11-20mm F2.8, I visited various locations around the Hampton Roads area in Virginia. From Downtown Norfolk to North End in Virginia Beach, the lens' focal range gave me the ability to discover a wide array of compositions. From the city's towering buildings to the beach's gorgeous oceanfront, I was able to capture my community like never before.
With the 11mm focal length, I was able to capture the full scene. I got incredibly close to the waves on the shore while still getting a full view of the bright blue skies in the composition. On the opposite side of the lens' focal range, 20mm, it gives you a 30mm full-frame equivalent on the FUJIFILM X-T4 that is close to the 35mm we all know and love. At 20mm (30mm), paired with F2.8, you can get smooth bokeh and nice separation between your subject and scene. It's like having the best of both worlds in one lens.
While my comfort zone is between the 35mm and 50mm full-frame equivalent, I enjoyed my time with the 11-20mm F2.8 lens. Its wider focal length allowed me to see things from a different perspective, and its outstanding image quality blew me away. TAMRON has been on a roll with its FUJIFILM lens lineup, and this is just another example of that.
