TAMRON to Enter the Laser Welding Solutions Sector

Tamron Co., Ltd. (President & CEO: Shogo Sakuraba; Headquarters: Saitama City, Japan; “TAMRON”), an integrated manufacturer of optics, aims to enter the laser welding solutions sector to contribute to automation and environmental improvements in welding workplaces, as well as to enhance welding quality. TAMRON is currently developing a “beam profiler” (a measuring instrument that visualizes the state of a laser beam), which is a key component of laser welding systems. TAMRON is pleased to announce that a prototype of this device, currently under development, will be exhibited for the first time at the Japan International Welding Show 2026*, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight starting Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the NADEX CO., LTD. booth (West Exhibition Hall 2-45).
In recent years, as medical devices and precision instruments have become increasingly miniaturized and high-performance, there has been a growing need in the welding operations to weld lightweight sheets and different metals such as copper and aluminum, which present significant challenges. Additionally, there is a demand for improved processing quality that prevents spatter (debris) generated during welding from adhering to the workpiece. However, a major challenge in laser welding has been the inability to maintain consistent quality. Even under the same output conditions, changes in the focal position of the laser beam at the irradiation point or in the spatial intensity distribution (beam profile) can lead to processing irregularities, focal misalignment, and spatter. Therefore, a laser welding system is expected to be a product that highly integrates various complex elemental technologies, including equipment such as a laser oscillator, a processing head, and a beam profiler, as well as other ancillary equipment.
To address these challenges in laser welding, TAMRON has leveraged the optical technologies it has cultivated over many years to develop a beam profiler that measures and visualizes the state of the laser beam (such as laser beam diameter and heat distribution) in real time.
Furthermore, TAMRON is also developing a laser processing head utilizing its core high-power laser optical technology. It aims to launch two products (beam profiler and laser processing head) in 2027, thereby entering the laser welding solutions market and contributing to the automation of welding operations and the improvement of working environments.
